[August 22, 2016]  LINCOLN - Robert Coombs Sr., 90, passed away at 12:50 p.m. on August 18, 2016 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Visitation: Wednesday August 24, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln

Service: 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Obituary

Robert Coombs Sr., 90, passed away at 12:50 p.m. on August 18, 2016 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Robert was born on August 1, 1926 in Lincoln, son of William and Henrietta “Bertha” Rodgers Coombs. He married Maxine Routson on February 1, 1953 in Lincoln. She survives him.

Also surviving Robert are his children: Marsha Plymell of Clinton, Linda (Bob) Reed of Clinton, Suzette Robinson of Lincoln, and Robert (Valerie) Coombs Jr. of Lincoln; two brothers: Gene Coombs of California and George Wayne Coombs of Florida; three sisters: Joan Heidbreder of Lincoln, Gloria (Richard) Craig of Beason, and Joyce Bailey of Lincoln; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: John and Earl Coombs, one sister: Betty Washam, and one grandson: David Reed.

Robert was a U.S. Navy veteran during WWII. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren, and making things for them. He also retired from the Lincoln Bottle Factory.

Services for Robert will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday August 25, 2016 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Michael Mallick and Scott Marsh officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday August 24, 2016 also at the funeral home. Burial at New Union Cemetery will follow the service.

Memorials may be made in Roberts name to the Humane Society of Logan County, the Alzheimer’s Association, or the Logan County Paramedics Association.
