West Lincoln-Broadwell at Springfield Calvary

[August 24, 2016]    The West Lincoln-Broadwell boys baseball team was back it tonight, this time on the road at Springfield Calvary. The game was played at the very nice Spartan Sports Park in Chatham. The field featured an all-turf infield and grass outfield. Very cool.

 

The Wolverine offense showed up in full force tonight as they pounded out 17 hits and scored 17 runs. Scotty Battin led the way as he was a home run short of the cycle going 3-for-3 with a single, double, and triple. Battin was on base all 6 plate appearances adding a walk and 2 hit batsmen. Battin also scored 3 times and had 2 RBI's. Jacob Langley went 3-for-5 including 2 doubles and 3 RBI's. Lucas Konczyk added 2 hits, 2 runs, and 3 RBI's. Drew Eimer had 3 hits, 2 runs and an RBI for the visitors. Patrick McCraith filled the box score with 2 hits including a double, 3 runs scored, a walk, hit batsman, and an RBI. Fifth graders Trey Schilling and Michael Lucas each added a single. Lucas scored a run and had an RBI. Sam Gleason also singled, scored twice and had a run batted in.

Gleason got the win on the mound with a solid 3 innings giving up 3 runs, 2 earned on 3 hits while walking 2 and striking out 4. McCraith took over in the 4th pitching 3 innings and giving up 4 runs, all earned, 5 hits, 3 walks and 4 K's. Konczyk finished the 7th inning facing 4 batters and striking out 2.

The Wolverines opened the game up with 8 runs in the 7th inning on 7 hits taking a comfortable 17-5 lead into the final half inning.

WLB moves to 2-2 on the season and will take on Mt. Pulaski on Thursday at 4:00pm at Miller Field.
