[August 29, 2016]  Several years ago the city of Lincoln began a project that incorporated the youngest members of our community in preparing for the thousands of guests that would be visiting.

Chalk Art on Lincoln's Downtown Square declared a warm welcome and helped set a festive tone. Under the coordination of Kathy Vineyard, school children and local artists provided chalk art on walkways in Lincoln's Historic District.

While the emphasis of the festival is now at the airport, those visitors who made their way downtown area found a trail of whimsical to beautiful art works to lead their foot steps past local shops.

School children and individuals worked hard and fast between rain falls this year on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

2016 Balloon Festival artwork was provided by
students from Carroll Catholic on Kickapoo, West Lincoln Broadwell on Broadway, Washington Monroe on Broadway and McLean, Central and Adams are on N. Kickapoo Streets. Lincoln Junior High School supplied works on five corners downtown: City Hall, Flossie's, Integrity, Prairie Engineers, Post Office.
