[August 29, 2016]  On Saturday, the Lincoln College Women's Volleyball team hosted a tringular set of matches. LC got off to a rough start in the opening match of the day against Joliet Junior College.

The team made numerous unforced errors yet managed to keep the score close most of the way, before falling 26-24 to the visitors. The Lady Lynx rebounded in set two to crush JCC 25-10. With their confidence restored, LC led all the way in set three to take it 25-17. Joliet would not go down without a fight though, as they pushed Lincoln again in set four, but LC was able to hold them off for a 25-22 win to end the match.

In the afternoon, Lincoln faced off against Waubonsee Community College who came into the match ranked #13 in the latest NJCAA National Poll. Lincoln was not intimidated though as they jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in set one.

However, WCC was able to take Lincoln out of their serve receive rhythm with some tough serves and come back for a 25-19 set one win. Lincoln was not able to rebound in set two, dropping it 25-18. In set three the Lady Lynx regrouped and battled their way to a 25-21 set win. Their cause was helped by a late four-point run of serves from sophomore outside hitter Kenzie Cooper.

LC was unable to push the match to a deciding set as they once again had trouble in serve receive and lost set four 25-16. Lincoln is now 2-1 on the season and will host the MacMurray JV squad on Thursday evening at 6:30 PM.

LC Coach Mark Tippett: "We started off with a very sloppy effort in set one against Joliet, making far too many unforced errors such as missed serves and net violations. These are the kinds of mistakes that young teams make before they gain the confidence that comes with experience.

"I was impressed with how quickly our players were able to refocus and not let the mental mistakes continue. Sets two and three were extremely well played by our team and showed that they are capable of controlling the tempo of a match. Waubonsee has a strong team with 9 Sophomores on their roster.

"Their experience showed in our match as did their ability to take a team out of system with aggressive serves. We gave up too many aces before being able to get volleys started to win the match, but I was very encouraged by the way our players stood up to the pressure the WCC put on us. We had some fantastic rallies with them and our win in set three showed that despite our lack of experience, our team has the potential to compete at a high level.
