[December 16, 2016]    Dec 15 (The Sports Xchange) - New York Mets closer Jeurys Familia had a simple assault charge dropped against him by a judge in Fort Lee, N.J.

 

Familia's wife, Bianca Rivas, said she did not wish for the case to be pursued any further and feels she and her child are not in danger.

Familia was arrested Oct. 31 after he allegedly caused a scratch to the chest and a bruise to the right cheek of his wife.

The Philadelphia Phillies reached agreement with 2016 All-Star outfielder Odubel Herrera on a five-year contract extension, the team announced.

The deal covers Herrera through the 2021 season and is worth a guaranteed $30.5 million, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. MLB.com reported the contract includes club options for 2022 at $11.5 million and for 2013 at $12.5 million.

Herrera, 24, would have been eligible for arbitration after the 2017 season.

Herrera hit .297 with eight home runs and 16 stolen bases as a rookie in 2015, and batted .286 with 15 homers and 25 stolen bases in 2016.

The Colorado Rockies signed free agent left-handed reliever Mike Dunn to a three-year contract.

According to reports, Dunn will get a guaranteed $19 million and the contract also contains up to $1 million in games-finished incentives.

Dunn spent the past five seasons as a key late-inning setup man for the Miami Marlins. Despite missing the first two months with a strained forearm, Dunn finished 6-1 with 3.40 ERA in 51 games last season. (Editing by Andrew Both)
