[December 28, 2016]    Dec 27 (The Sports Xchange) - Buffalo Sabres center Ryan O'Reilly underwent an appendectomy over the Christmas break and will be sidelined indefinitely, the team announced Tuesday.

 

O'Reilly has collected seven goals and 11 assists in 27 games this season. The 25-year-old's 18 points are fourth-best on the Sabres (12-13-8), who are producing an NHL third-worst 2.1 goals per game.

The Chicago Blackhawks activated center Artem Anisimov after he missed the previous two games with an upper-body injury. Anisimov has 14 goals and 13 assists in 27 games this season.

In a corresponding move, Chicago placed forward Marian Hossa on injured reserve with an upper-body injury. Hossa, who was placed on the injured reserve list retroactive to Dec. 20, has 16 goals and seven assists in 32 games this season.

The Toronto Maple Leafs added reinforcements following the Christmas break by recalling goaltender Antoine Bibeau and forwards Byron Froese and Frederik Gauthier from their American Hockey League affiliate.

Bibeau could be in line for action as the Maple Leafs begin a back-to-back stretch on Wednesday with a game against the Florida Panthers. Toronto will cap its four-game road trip with a game versus the Tampa Bay Lightning the following night. (Editing by Larry Fine) ))
