[February 10, 2016]  Feb 9 (The Sports Xchange) - The Arizona Diamondbacks and Gold Glove center fielder A.J. Pollock avoided arbitration and agreed to a two-year deal worth $10.25 million late Monday night.

Pollock hit .315 with 65 extra-base hits -- including 20 home runs -- last season. He also stole 39 bases in 46 tries.

Houston Astros catcher Jason Castro lost his arbitration hearing and will earn $5 million next season.

Castro had sought $5.25 million, but an arbitration panel sided with the Astros. A first-round pick out of Stanford in 2008, he made $4 million last season when he hit .211, his lowest average since his rookie season in 2010.

With 10 days before pitchers and catchers report for their first workout, the New York Yankees got a dose of good news. Ace Masahiro Tanaka threw off the bullpen mound during a workout in New York and the prognosis after the workout is that Tanaka's rehab is right on track.

He underwent arthroscopic surgery in October to remove a bone spur from his elbow.

Seattle signed right-handed pitcher Joel Peralta to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Peralta, 39, went 3-1 with three saves and a 4.34 ERA in 33 relief appearances during an injury-shortened 2015 season with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Chicago White Sox and free-agent right-hander Mat Latos agreed on a one-year, $3-million deal, according to multiple reports.

The 28-year-old Latos pitched for both the Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Dodgers last season. He compiled a 4-10 record with a 4.95 ERA.

First baseman Travis Ishikawa also reached agreement with the White Sox on a minor league contract with an invitation to the spring training.

Last season with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Ishikawa played in 44 games and batted .206 with 1 home run and eight RBIs.

The Baltimore Orioles signed third baseman Patrick Palmeiro, the son of former slugger Rafael Palmeiro, to a minor-league contract.

Palmeiro, 26, played for the Sugar Land (Texas) Skeeters of the Atlantic League last season. He previously had been in the Chicago White Sox system. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
