[February 11, 2016]    (Reuters) - A police officer suffered a serious gunshot wound during a standoff with a suspect holed up in a North Dakota home, local media reported on Thursday.

Police officer Jason Moszer, 33, was wounded on Wednesday evening when he responded to a domestic disturbance on the northeast side of Fargo, North Dakota, according to WDAZ, an ABC affiliate.

Moszer suffered an extremely serious gunshot wound, Fargo Police Chief Dave Todd told a news conference early on Thursday, the news station reported.

Local media reported that an unidentified man armed with several weapons, including a long rifle, began shooting at police from a home when they responded to an incident at 7 p.m. local time on Wednesday.

Nearby residents were told to stay in their homes and go into their basements for shelter, the news station said.
