[February 16, 2016]  LINCOLN - Lincoln Fire responded to a call of a structure fire at 812-1/2 North Chicago Street on Tuesday February 16th

Chief Mark Miller was the first to arrive on the scene and confirmed a working fire in progress.  Engine 5104 responded with a 1-3/4” hand line while Crew 5102 placed the ladder and covered personal property with tarps.  Overhaul of the exterior wall and interior ceiling exposed the flame and fire spread.  The fire was placed under control and extinguished.

Lincoln Rural 5111 secured additional water supplies which were not needed.

The three occupants and their pets vacated the home, and denied the offer of assistance through the Salvation Army or American Red Cross.

Occupants verified that a similar fire had occurred a couple of months prior due to the duct work from a wood burning stove.  Improper ventilation was determined to be the cause for the fire.

Utilities were managed at the scene by Ameren Illinois and Illinois American Water.
