[February 23, 2016]    Over the weekend, the Lincoln College Men's volleyball team participated in the MWPVC Crossover Tournament hosted by Lewis University. LC entered two teams in the 20 team event that featured varsity teams from some of the largest universities in the mid-west. The LC sophomore team entered the tournament ranked #13 in the nation (DII) and wound up taking second place.

The Lynx first defeated the University of Missouri "C" team in opening round play (19-25, 31-29, 15-9) to advance to the Gold division. In their pool, they first faced the eventual tournament champion, the University of Missouri "A" team which is ranked #6 in the nation among DI varsity programs. The Lynx put up a good fight but fell to the Tigers 25-16, 25-15. Lincoln bounced back to defeat Missouri S&T (25-17, 25-19) and the University of Nebraska (22-25, 25-15, 15-13) before losing in their final match of pool play to St. Louis University 19-25, 23-25. The team's 2-2 record in their pool earned them a second place finish overall in the event. Lincoln is 8-2 overall in club conference play.

The Lincoln freshman squad went 3-3 in this event. The team opened up with a hard-fought loss to Missouri S&T (29-31, 25-23, 12-15), but rebounded to defeat SIU-E in straight sets 25-14, 25-19. The win advanced the team to the Bronze division where they went 2-2 to earn a second place tie and a finish of 13th overall in the tournament. The team is now 6-5 overall in club conference play.

LC Coach Mark Tippett: Our teams worked very hard this weekend and had a lot to be proud of in terms of their ability to compete against some very strong competition. For our sophomores to finish in second place in this tournament is quite an accomplishment considering the size of the schools we are going up against and the number of upperclassmen that they faced. I was also quite proud of the way our freshman group performed. They darn near beat Missouri S&T which finished 3rd overall. A win in that match would have put them in position for a much higher finish in this event. They competed very well throughout the weekend, and I believe they grew as a team.

Lincoln next hosts a match against the Belleville-Lindenwood varsity team Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
