Two Logan County Board seats remain open in March Primary

[January 04, 2016]  LINCOLN - In the March Primary for six Logan County Board seats, five candidates are on the ballot. Three current members are vying to keep their seats, two new candidates are running to fill one open seat, and no candidates have filed for either Districts 3 or 5.

Chuck Ruben, District 1; Gene Rohlfs, District 4 and Kevin Bateman, District 6 are running for re-election.

Janet Dahm and Casey Hoag have filed to run for the Board position in District 2 to fill the spot opened when Jan Schumacher resigned in November due to moving out of the district.

District 5 includes voting Precincts West Lincoln 3 and 6, plus parts of West Lincoln Precincts 1 and 5.

District 5 covers an area between West Feldman Drive and Third through 23rd Streets, in addition to North Jefferson, North Madison, North Monroe, North Adams, North State, North Elm, Edgar, Mundy, Chestnut, South Elm, Pine, Maple, Mill and Walnut Streets. McDivitt, White, Palmer, Oglesby, and Grand Avenues are also part of the District, as are sections of North and South Union Streets and North and South College Streets.  See District 5 map

District 3 covers voting precincts Mount Pulaski 1 and 2, plus the Townships of Aetna, Chester, Lake Fork/Laenna and Oran.

District 3 is bounded by areas from 1200th through 2400th Avenue and 50th through 2050th Streets intersecting State Routes 121 and 54.

Pat O'Neill has represented District 5 since 2002. During his 12 years on the Logan County Board, O'Neill has served on several committees. At the December 15 Board meeting O’Neill said that due to various mistakes on his petition, the electoral board found that he is not eligible to run for re-election.

Rick Aylesworth of Mount Pulaski was appointed to the Board in 2005 and represents District 3. During his years on the Logan County Board he has also served on several committees. He has not filed to run for re-election.

Six County Board members - David Blankenship, Robert Farmer, David Hepler, Andy Anderson, Scott Schaffenacker and Emily Davenport, have two more years left on their terms.

The primary will be held on March 15, 2016.
