[January 07, 2016]  Jan 6 (The Sports Xchange) - New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton announced Wednesday he will remain as head coach.

"This is where I plan on coaching, and I don't envision myself coaching for any other club," Payton said.

Payton was reportedly on the radar of several suitors since the 2015 regular season ended Jan. 3.

Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson released a joint statement with the team, stating he is evaluating all of his options for the future and expects a decision "in the not-too-distant future."

Johnson has dealt with knee, ankle and finger issues in recent seasons.

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant underwent surgery on his right foot and ankle, according to reports.

Bryant was having another bone graft added to the foot and will have the ankle cleaned up, according to ESPN.com.

The Cowboys expect him to be ready for the offseason program that begins on April 18.

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who sprained his right ankle in Sunday's regular-season finale, doesn't seem too worried about the injury.

"Feeling better. Better than I was a couple days ago," Brady told reporters after he walked to the podium without a noticeable limp.

The Patriots have a first-round playoff bye this week before hosting a divisional-round game on Saturday, Jan. 16 against either the Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Texans or Kansas City Chiefs.

Defensive end J.J. Watt of the Houston Texans has been selected as winner of the Deacon Jones Award, given to the NFL leader in quarterback sacks.

Watt, a four-time Pro Bowl selection, led the league with 17.5 sacks in addition to having 50 quarterback hits and 29 tackles for losses.

Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James is concerned for troubled Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel.

Manziel, 23, is a client of LRMR, James' marketing firm.

"I think it's more concerned for him individually," James said Wednesday before the Cavs' morning shootaround in Washington, D.C., when asked if Manziel worried him more from a branding perspective or for his well-being.

Manziel reportedly was in Las Vegas on Saturday night despite being in the NFL's concussion protocol that sidelined him for the team's season finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He missed his concussion treatment on Sunday at the team's facility.

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, who missed most of the 2014 season after being suspended for abusing his son, said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell "was blind to the fact of what I was going through."

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Peterson still is not happy with the way the NFL handled him last year.

"Roger Goodell, man, I don't know. ... This is when I knew he was blind to the fact of what I was going through. I sat down with him. He asked me, 'What is a whuppin'? It was one of the first questions. It kind of showed me we were on a totally different level. It's just the way of life. For instance, in Texas, we know what whuppins are."

The Vikings placed tight end Rhett Ellison on injured reserve due to the knee injury he sustained during last Sunday night's win over the Green Bay Packers.

The Philadelphia Eagles are planning a second interview with Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase for their vacant head coaching position.
