[January 07, 2016]  LINCOLN - Larry Engle, 74, of Lincoln passed away at 6:45 p.m. January 1, 2016 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, surrounded by his wife, family, and friends.

Visitation: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday January 5, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln.

Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 6 at the funeral home

Obituary

Larry Engle, 74, of Lincoln passed away at 6:45 p.m. January 1, 2016 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, surrounded by his wife, family, and friends.

Larry was born June 6, 1941 in Lincoln, the son of Paul and Kathleen Warren Engle. He married Norma Spellman in 1973. She survives in Lincoln.

Also surviving Larry is his sister, Dottie (Bud) Huffaker of Chatham, his sister-in-law Sandi Engle, and many nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his daughter, Tara Lee, his parents, and his brother Paul (Punky) Engle.

Larry graduated from Lincoln High School in 1959, attended ISU, Lincoln College, and graduated from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. He later received a Master’s Degree from Eastern Illinois University. Larry was drafted in to the Army and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. His teaching and coaching duties included Saybrook-Arrowsmith, Argenta-Oreana, Lincoln High School, and Olympia High School. He had many honors from his coaching career, such as the Decatur Herald & Review Area Track and Field Coach of The Year as well as the Decatur Herald & Review Area Football Coach of The Year. Larry retired after 31 years of teaching and coaching.

He enjoyed summers on the Elks golf course and winters in the St. Petersburg area. He was a 32nd degree Mason as well as a member of the Lincoln American Legion Post #263.

Services for Larry will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday January 5, 2016 at the funeral home. Burial will follow services in Old Union Cemetery, Lincoln. Memorial donations may be made in Larry’s name to Kidney Foundation, Heart Association, or The Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Foundation.
