[January 23, 2016]  Jan 22 (The Sports Xchange) - Carolina Panthers defensive end Jared Allen has been ruled out for Sunday's NFC Championship Game against the Arizona Cardinals because of a fractured foot.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera announced Friday he was holding out Allen, who broke a small bone in his right foot against the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday.

Rivera acknowledged that Allen would have played Sunday had he been given a choice.

"(I'm) not happy, plain and simple," said Allen, who practiced on a limited basis Thursday. "I'm ready to rock. Coach's decision, gotta live with it."

Second-year defensive end Kony Ealy will start in Allen's place and Ryan Delaire is expected to see increased playing time.

Panthers running backs Jonathan Stewart (ankle) and Fozzy Whittaker (ankle) are listed as probable for Sunday along with defensive tackle Dwan Edwards (foot) and defensive end Charles Johnson (not injury related).

The Cardinals listed seven players as probable on the team's final injury report of the week.

Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer continues to be listed because of a dislocated finger, but he hasn't missed any practice time as a result of the injury.

Cornerback Justin Bethel (ankle), wide receiver John Brown (shoulder), linebacker Markus Golden (knee), running back David Johnson (toe), defensive tackle Josh Mauro (calf) and defensive tackle Frostee Rucker (ankle) also are listed as probable.
