[January 28, 2016]  Jan 27 (The Sports Xchange) - New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is hoping big brother Peyton Manning "can go out on top" if Super Bowl 50 becomes the last game for the Denver Broncos quarterback.

Peyton Manning was captured by NFL Films cameras telling New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick that this could be his "last rodeo" in the moments after the Broncos' 20-18 win in the AFC Championship game last Sunday.

Eli Manning, of course, is rooting for his brother to win the Super Bowl but insists he doesn't know whether this will be the last time Peyton is seen in an NFL game.

"He has not said anything to me about it," Eli Manning said on a conference call.

"But when you get to Year 19 and you deal with some injuries and things going on ... it would be a good way to go out."

Clete Blakeman was named the referee for the seven-man officiating crew assigned to work Super Bowl 50 on Feb. 7 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., the NFL announced Wednesday.

Blakeman, in his eighth season as an NFL game official, worked the NFC divisional playoff game earlier this month between the Seattle Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers that included a controversial re-flip of the coin toss before overtime.

Joining Blakeman on the crew are Jeff Rice (umpire), Wayne Mackie (head linesman), Rusty Baynes (line judge), Boris Cheek (field judge), Scott Edwards (side judge) and Keith Ferguson (back judge).

Mike McCarthy is staying back in Green Bay and will miss the Pro Bowl this week in Honolulu because of a stomach illness.

McCarthy was scheduled to be on the sideline as head coach for one of the two teams in the annual all-star game, but doctors advised against him making the trip. Packers associate head coach-linebackers coach Winston Moss will sub for McCarthy during the remainder of the week.

The coaching staffs of the Packers and Kansas City Chiefs are directing the Pro Bowl squads. Players for each team were drafted on Wednesday night.

As part of the celebration of the league's championship game turning 50, the NFL will honor living Super Bowl Most Valuable Players before Super Bowl 50 kicks off Feb. 7 in Santa Clara, Calif.

While perfect attendance is not expected, the list would include active players such as Patriots quarterback Tom Brady -- a Bay-area native -- and New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning, the younger brother of Peyton Manning.

Peyton Manning is a former MVP himself, but the 39-year-old Denver Broncos quarterback will be focused on the game as the oldest starter ever in a Super Bowl.

The Dallas Cowboys plan to interview former University of Miami head coach Al Golden for a defensive position.

Golden will meet with head coach Jason Garrett in Mobile, Ala., where the Cowboys are coaching the North team in the Senior Bowl.

The Cowboys have a vacancy at secondary coach after the departure of Jerome Henderson, who was named the Atlanta Falcons' defensive passing game coordinator on Monday.

The Washington Redskins are determined to build a playoff contender with quarterback Kirk Cousins at the helm. The question this offseason is how much it is going to cost the team to keep the pending free agent.

Cousins led the Redskins to the NFC East title while starting all 16 games in 2015, completing 69.8 percent of his passes for 4,166 yards and 29 touchdowns against 11 interceptions.
