[July 05, 2016]  July 3 (The Sports Xchange) - The Arizona Diamondbacks placed right-hander Zack Greinke on the 15-day disabled list Sunday due to a lingering oblique injury.

Greinke departed Tuesday's start against Philadelphia after two innings due to tightness in his left oblique. An MRI exam performed Saturday displayed a strain.

The disabled list move was made retroactive to June 29 and the Diamondbacks are optimistic Greinke will be recovered when play resumes after the All-Star break on July 15.

Greinke signed a six-year, $206.5 million deal with the Diamondbacks during the offseason and got off to a slow start. He has won his last seven decisions and is 10-3 with a 3.62 ERA.

Arizona also activated outfielder Rickie Weeks Jr. from the bereavement list.

The Washington Nationals activated right-hander Stephen Strasburg shortly before Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Reds, and Strasburg pitched 6 2/3 innings of no-hit ball before being pulled from the game.

Strasburg threw 109 pitches in his first start since coming off the disabled list with a back injury.

The Nationals had waited until he successfully completed his pre-game warm-up session before officially activating him from the DL.

Washington placed right-hander Joe Ross (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list to open up the roster spot.

Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw could miss at least a month of action with a herniated disc, reported Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal. The Dodgers placed Kershaw on the disabled list Thursday.

Chicago Cubs Outfielder Chris Coghlan was placed on the disabled list with a rib cage injury, with the Cubs calling up Jeimer Candelario from Triple-A Iowa.

Cleveland Indians outfielder Abraham Almonte was activated from an 80-game suspension after testing positive for a banned performance-enhancing substance, which Major League Baseball said was Boldenone, an anabolic steroid generally used by veterinarians on horses.

The Indians also optioned left-handed pitcher Shawn Morimando to Triple-A Columbus and transferred outfielder Michael Brantley (right shoulder) from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.

Cleveland Indians third baseman Juan Uribe (right hand) was scratched from the lineup Sunday and replaced by Jose Ramirez. Uribe was hit in the hand by a pitch in the sixth inning Saturday.

The Indians optioned left-hander Shawn Morimando to Triple-A Columbus Sunday after he pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief Saturday. He was called up from Double-A Akron for the game Saturday.

New York Mets outfielder Curtis Granderson (right calf) returned to the starting lineup for the first time since Tuesday, but shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera, who is battling a minor knee injury, was out of the lineup for just the fourth time this season.

The Boston Red Sox optioned right-hander Pat Light to Triple-A Pawtucket before Sunday's game to make room for starter right-hander Sean O'Sullivan, who was called up from Pawtucket and started Sunday's game.

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Jhoulys Chacin (2-5, 6.11 ERA) was moved to the bullpen. He had allowed fewer than four runs once in his last six starts.

Chicago White Sox first baseman Justin Morneau is set to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte on Monday. Morneau signed with the White Sox on June 9 and is recovering from left elbow primary flexor surgery.

The Texas Rangers recalled pitcher Michael Roth was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock.

Rangers right-hander Luke Jackson was optioned to Double-A Frisco. Jackson pitched in eight games for Texas with a 10.80 ERA.

The Minnesota Twins designated right-handed pitcher Kevin Jepsen designated for assignment. Jepsen was 2-5 with a 6.16 ERA and seven saves in 33 games this season with Minnesota.

The Twins also recalled outfielder Eddie Rosario from Triple-A Rochester.

Oakland A's catcher Josh Phegley (strained right knee) was placed on the 15-day disabled list, and "there's a potential" for surgery, manager Bob Melvin said.

The A's recalled catcher Matt McBride from Triple-A Nashville, and he started against Pittsburgh.

The pitching-strapped Baltimore Orioles optioned Saturday starter Tyler Wilson to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday morning and called up left-handed reliever Ariel Miranda, who was at Safeco Field for the game after being summoned from Norfolk late Saturday night.

Orioles catcher Caleb Joseph was in the lineup Sunday for the first time since coming off the disabled list following testicular surgery.

Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story was not in the starting lineup for the fourth consecutive game because of a bruised right finger. He entered the game as a defensive replacement.
