[July 20, 2016]    (Reuters) - Two New York City police officers were shot at on Tuesday while on foot patrol in Brooklyn, police said.

The officers were not hurt in the incident that occurred a little before 11 p.m. local time when two shots were fired at them by individuals in a sedan that drove passed them, a New York City Police Department spokesman said.

The incident comes two days after three police officers were gunned down in Louisiana's state capital and less than two weeks after five Dallas officers were killed by a gunman. Both shootings are believed to have been racially motivated attacks aimed at white officers.

Police did not identify the officers.

Four black men riding in a dark colored sedan with tinted windows slowly approached the two officers and made a statement "about getting them" before shots were fired, the Sergeants Benevolent Association said on Facebook.

The car was later found in a nearby precinct, the union said.
