[July 22, 2016]    July 21 (The Sports Xchange) - Surgery remains a last-ditch option for Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw, who was shut down after he experienced a recurrence of soreness in his back last weekend.

Kershaw has not pitched since June 26 because of a herniated disk. Manager Dave Roberts said before Wednesday's game that the Dodgers are hoping to avoid surgery.

Right-handed pitcher Julio Urias was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City and started Thursday's series finale for the Los Angeles Dodgers against the Washington Nationals.

Urias, who gave up one run in four innings and was expected to be sent back down after the game, made eight starts before the All-Star break for the Dodgers and is considered the organization's top pitching prospect.

Prince Fielder might be headed for season-ending neck surgery for the second time in his three years with the Texas Rangers.

The first baseman/designated hitter was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday because of a herniated disk in his neck, and he would miss the rest of the season if he decides to have surgery.Surgery was recommended, but Fielder will seek a second opinion later this week.
