[July 23, 2016]    July 22 (The Sports Xchange) - The New York Rangers agreed to terms with restricted free agent forward Chris Kreider on a new contract to avoid arbitration.

 

The Rangers also agreed to terms with restricted free agent forward Kevin Hayes on a contract to avoid an arbitration hearing scheduled for July 27. Hayes agreed to a reported two-year deal worth $2.6 million.

Kreider, 25, will receive a four-year deal worth $18.5 million with an annual salary-cap hit of $4.625 million, according to reports. Kreider had been asking for $4.75 million for a one-year deal in arbitration, while the Rangers countered at $3.2 million. The arbitration hearing was scheduled later Friday.

The Montreal Canadiens agreed to terms with free agent right winger Bobby Farnham on a one-year, two-way contract.

Farnham, 27, started last season with the Pittsburgh Penguins before being claimed off waivers by the New Jersey Devils in October. The 5-foot-10, 188-pound Farnham registered eight goals, two assists and 97 penalty minutes in 53 games in the NHL in 2015-16.

The Arizona Coyotes signed forward Stefan Fournier to a one-year, two-way contract, the club announced.

Fournier, 24, was acquired from Montreal during the 2015-16 season.

He had 11 points (seven goals, four assists) in 56 games between American Hockey League teams St. John's and Springfield last season.

The Toronto Maple Leafs signed defenseman Connor Carrick to a two-year contract, the team announced.

Carrick, 22, had two goals and two assists in 16 games for Toronto last season after being acquired from the Washington Capitals in late February.
