[July 26, 2016]  LINCOLN - Logan County Arts and the Lincoln Art Institute will continue an art-filled summer with their August exhibit, “Palettes Gone Wild”. The show will debut with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 4 at the Lincoln Art Institute, 112 S. McLean St, Lincoln, next to the US Post Office.

Gallery owner Moses Pinkerton explained that “Palettes Gone Wild” is not a themed show. In fact, quite the opposite is true. Posters for the event invite visitors to ”come and see what happens when our artists are no longer fettered by the evil constraints of ‘GENRE’”. This does not mean that the artwork will be unusually weird or far out, merely that the artists are not going to follow a unifying theme, as is often the case. LCA members agree that having a theme provides a point toward which creative juices can be channeled during realization, and having a theme can move artists from their usual comfort zone in a good way. On the other hand, the coming show will allow viewers to see creations that may have languished in the studio because they didn’t fit any of the group’s themes so far.

Inside sources say the works on display will include photography, sculpture, painting and fabric decorated using traditional African techniques. However, there are sure to be some interesting surprises from artists Margie Douglas, Mitch Douglas, Suzanne Faulkner, Jason Hoffman, Bev Noble, Moses Pinkerton, Nancy Saul, Rob Swofford and others.

After the initial reception, the new “OPEN” flag flying in front of the Institute will indicate when the gallery is open. Otherwise, the show will be available for viewing until September by chance or appointment. Visitors may ring the doorbell, and if Pinkerton is available he will open the gallery. For an appointment, people may call Pinkerton at 217-651-8355.

Also available at the “Palettes Gone Wild” opening will be information on the September, 2016 LCA show, with a “Myths and Fables” theme. Nonmembers can also show artworks consistent with the theme by paying a small display fee. Any nonmember interested in doing this should contact Pinkerton or Mitch Douglas (630-890-1318) for more information.
