[July 27, 2016]  July 26 (The Sports Xchange) - Six-time NBA All-Star Amar'e Stoudemire announced his retirement on Tuesday after signing a one-day contract with the New York Knicks.

The 33-year-old Stoudemire played 14 NBA seasons, including 4 1/2 campaigns with the Knicks. He had his best seasons with the Phoenix Suns and also played for the Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat.

Stoudemire was an All-Star for the Knicks in 2010-11 when he averaged 24.7 points and 8.0 rebounds.

The 6-foot-10 Stoudemire averaged 21.9 points and 9.1 rebounds in 846 career games.

The Cleveland Cavaliers and head coach Tyronn Lue completed a five-year contract worth $35 million.

The first four years are guaranteed, and the fifth year is a team option, allowing Lue to easily exceed the $21 million he earned during his playing career as a backup point guard.

Lue, 39, led the Cavaliers to the NBA title after taking over for David Blatt in January. He never signed a contract as a head coach and was working on a four-year deal worth $6.5 million as Blatt's top assistant when the Cavaliers won three straight over Golden State to capture the title.

Lue compiled a 27-14 record down the stretch in the regular season. The Cavaliers swept the Detroit Pistons and Atlanta Hawks and Lue became the first coach to start the playoffs 10-0 before needing six games to eliminate the Toronto Raptors in the Eastern Conference finals.

The Miami Heat secured a two-year agreement with free-agent shooting guard Dion Waiters.

Last season in 78 games, Waiters averaged only 9.8 points per game -- a career low. He has a 12.8 career average in 289 games (110 starts).

Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder arrived at a crossroads. When Dion Waiters signed a two-year deal with the Miami Heat, the Thunder set the stage for a make-or-break contract negotiation with Westbrook.
