Lincoln College names Matthew Vavro as new Head Women’s Basketball Coach

[June 03, 2016]   The Lincoln College Athletic Department announces Matthew Vavro as the Lynx women’s basketball coach. Vavro formerly was the head coach at Danville Area Community College leading his team to record breaking seasons.

“Coach Vavro will bring high energy and enthusiasm to our program and his past experience and success at DACC will no doubt help him lead the women’s program to new heights,” Athletic Director Dave Klemm said. “I am looking forward to working with Matt this coming 2016-17 season and look forward to an exciting women’s basketball season.”

Since 2014, Vavro was at the helm of the Danville Area Community College women’s program in Danville, IL. In his first season as the head coach for the Jaguars, his team broke the school record for wins going 24-8. Vavro followed that season up with another 20+ winning season finishing 22-8. His teams reached a national ranking 16 times peaking as high as #13, the highest in program history.

“I am extremely grateful that Coach Klemm and the entire search committee have given me this phenomenal opportunity to lead the Lincoln College women's basketball team,” Vavro said. “Lincoln College is a great institution and I am looking forward to leading these young women into the next chapter of their athletic and academic careers."

Vavro earned his M.S. in Education majoring in Sports Science/Coaching from the University of Akron in Akron, OH after earning his B.S. in Education majoring in Sports Management from Cleveland State University in Cleveland, OH. He was the an assistant men’s basketball coach at Glen Oaks Community College in Centreville, MI for the 2013-14 season where he helped lead the team to back to back conference championships for the first time in program history.

"I am very competitive and believe I bring a winning mentality to the program which will make it fun for the players to play and exciting for the fans to watch,” Vavro added.

The Lynx compete in the Mid-West Athletic Conference, a conference Vavro is most familiar with and previously coached in.

Vavro and his Lady Lynx will open up the 2016-17 season on the road at Souteastern Iowa on November 2 and will host the Lynx Classic with Lincoln Land, Black Hawk, and Moraine Valley on November 4 and 5, Homecoming weekend.
