[June 08, 2016]  June 7 (The Sports Xchange) - The Chicago Cubs placed outfielder Jorge Soler on the 15-day disabled list and recalled highly regarded prospect Albert Almora from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday.

 

Soler suffered a hamstring injury during Monday's victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. An MRI exam revealed he had strained the hamstring and there isn't yet a timetable for his return.

Jameson Taillon, the Pittsburgh Pirates' top pitching prospect, is being called up from Triple-A Indianapolis to make his major league debut on Wednesday against the New York Mets.

Left-hander Francisco Liriano was scheduled to start against the Mets right-hander Noah Syndergaard, but he will go Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Baltimore Orioles right-hander Yovani Gallardo made what could be his final rehab start on Tuesday with Triple-A Norfolk.

Gallardo gave up three runs and four hits in five innings.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said he had not received reports on the outing yet. Gallardo could be headed for a Sunday start in Toronto. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
