Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Foundation Names Scholarship Recipients

 

[June 11, 2016]  LINCOLN - The Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Foundation (ALMH-F) has recently named two 2016 Healthcare Career Scholarship recipients. Andrew Coop of Lincoln will receive $20,000 and Brittney Edwards, also of Lincoln, will receive $10,000 to help pursue their healthcare education. Each scholarship includes an agreement to work their first job out of college at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital (ALMH) in Lincoln.

“The Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Foundation has made a commitment to invest in the future workforce of ALMH through its Healthcare Career Scholarship Program. Since 2012, over $250,000 has been invested in local students pursuing careers in healthcare,” said Sarah Helm, executive director of the ALMH Foundation.

Coop and Edwards were selected for the scholarship after a rigorous application process that included three rounds of interviews. Coop is currently pursuing a bachelors of science in nursing at Illinois Wesleyan University and will graduate in May 2019. His future plans include graduate school to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. Edwards is currently pursuing an associates degree in surgical technology with an expected program completion date of December 2017.

Helm reports that this is the sixth year for the scholarship program. Past scholarship recipients include: Hannah Sheley, Alissa Cross, Lindsey Sanders, Lyndi Leesman, Betsy Leesman, Jade Dean, Abigale Wake, Jacqueline Martincic, Lauren Lynn, Alexa Meister and Brian Bishop. This spring ALMH is pleased to welcome three new graduates to the hospital staff, including 2 full-time registered nurses and a full-time pharmacist in the Emergency Department.

“Supporting the studies of students who have made job commitments to ALMH reflects the mission of both the foundation and the hospital,” said Eric Graue, Chairman of the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Foundation. “We are confident that we are doing the right thing for the students, the hospital, and our community.”
