Up in Smoke awards for Kansas City Barbecue Society, Backyard and Kids' Que Competitions

[June 10, 2016]   LINCOLN - At 5:00 p.m. on Saturday evening, John Means announced the results of the Up in Smoke on the Square competitions after Chris Graue thanked the various sponsors and volunteers of the events.

Kids' Que

In the Kids' Que contest age seven - 11 category, the Grills Gone Wild team received first place.

In the age 12-15 category, That One Brown Kid team received first place.

The Grills Gone Wild also received overall winner for the Kids' Que.

All contestants were recognized with a certificate for participation.

Backyard BBQ

For the chicken category, Sugar Creek BBQ was the first place winner, followed by Bigfoot BBQ in second place, JTA BBQ in third place, Backdraft BBQ in fourth place, and Firehouse in fifth place.

In the ribs category, Backdraft BBQ was the first place winner, followed by Double D's Rock Shack in second place, 1224 BBQ in third place, Old Time BBQ in fourth place, and Doc's Rib Shack in fifth place.

9-11 Q received the People's Choice Award.

Steak Cook-off

The Steak Cook-off on Friday replaced the Anything Goes contest of past years. The top five teams won cash prizes.

In the cook-off, It's Five O'Clock Somewhere was the first place winner, followed by Firemen in second place, Yellow River in third place, DanDy BBQ in fourth place, and Sleepy Hollow in fifth place.

KCBS

In the KCBS competition, participants in first through 10th place received awards.

Chicken

For the chicken category, Channabilly was the first place winner, followed by Yellow RiverBBQ in second place, Truckys True Blue BBQue in third place, Outsider's BBQ in fourth place, Blue Island BBQ in fifth place, One 2 BBQ in sixth place, Sleepy Hollow in seventh place, Valet Porking in eighth place; Cluck, Oink, and Moo in ninth place; and Sexy Q in 10th place.

Ribs

For the ribs category, Truckys True Blue BBQue received first place, followed by Outsider's BBQ in second place, Rural Route BBQ in third place, IBQN in fourth place, St. Louis Black Iron BBQ in fifth place, Sleepy Hollow in sixth place, Chilly Water Smokers in seventh place, DanDy BBQ in eighth place, Jugs BBQ team in ninth place, and Thunder Hog in 10th place.

Pork

For the Pork category, All in Que received first place, followed by Fiddling Fatback BBQ in second place, IBQN in third place, St. Valet Porking in fourth place, Monster Que in fifth place, Nuthatch Hill BBQ in sixth place, Outsider's BBQ in seventh place, Bone Head BBQ in eighth place, One 2 BBQ in ninth place, and Thunder Hog in 10th place.

Brisket

Finally, in the brisket category Thunder Hog received first place, followed by Yellow River BBQ in second place, Pork Paradise in third place, Monster Q in fourth place, Jug's BBQ in fifth place, Pitmaster IQ in sixth place, Trucky's True Blue BBQue in seventh place, QUAU in eighth place, Blue Island BBQ in ninth place, and Bone Head BBQ in 10th place.

Backyard BBQ Grand Champion

Grand Champion for the Backyard BBQ was the Backdraft team.

KCBS Grand Champion

For the KCBS competition, Outsider's BBQ received the Grand Champion prize and Trucky's True Blue BBQue was awarded Reserve Champion.

Though only a few received prizes, participants enjoyed the camaraderie and competition between teams.
