[June 10, 2016]  EAST PEORIA – Daniel W. Dowell, 60, of East Peoria, formerly of Delavan, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

Visitation: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, June 10th at Remmert Funeral Home

Service: 9:30 am Saturday, June 11th also at the funeral home

Funeral home: Remmert Funeral Home, 521 East Washington St., East Peoria.

Obituary

Daniel W. Dowell, 60, of East Peoria, formerly of Delavan, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

Born March 2, 1956 in Lincoln, to Robert and Lydia (McMullen) Dowell; he married Ellen Wilson April 11, 1981 in Lincoln, and she survives.

Also surviving are his brother, Tom Dowell of Delavan; sister, Marge Wibben of Lincoln; his God daughter, Sharver Laney; and his 6 grandchildren.

Dan was predeceased by his parents, his sister Betty Spires and his son, Clinton.

Dan enjoyed a good career with Caterpillar Inc. performing many roles at many different facilities until his retirement in December, 2015 as a Service Engineer.

During the 18 years Dan and Ellen spent in Delavan he was active in the community as a volunteer ambulance driver and storm spotter.  He also was active with the bowling league in Delavan.

Dan was a passionate NASCAR fan and was devoted to his favorite driver, Jeff Gordon.

In recent years he looked forward to coffee shop visits with friends in East Peoria.

Dan will be remembered most for sharing his sense of humor and rapier wit with everyone he met.  If you were having a down day he would do everything possible to lift your spirit.

Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm Friday, June 10th at Remmert Funeral Home, 521 East Washington St. in East Peoria.

His funeral will be at 9:30 am Saturday, June 11th also at Remmert Funeral Home with burial to follow at New Union Cemetery in Lincoln.

The family requests that memorial gifts be designated for liver transplant research at Mayo Clinic. Memorials can be made online at philanthropy.mayoclinic.org/give or mailed to Mayo Clinic, Department of Development, Mayo Clinic, 200 First St. SW, Rochester, MN 55905 or to the Salvation Army Childcare Center in Peoria where Dan regularly volunteered to “rock them babies.”
