 WASHINGTON -- Matt Niskanen delivered a power-play goal with 6:22 remaining as the Washington Capitals rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 on Tuesday.

Braden Holtby made 28 saves to reach the 40-win plateau for the second straight season, while Evgeny Kuznetsov and Mike Richards also scored goals for the Capitals.

Hurricanes 3, Devils 1

NEWARK, N.J. -- Joakim Nordstrom scored with 1:29 remaining in regulation to give Carolina victory against New Jersey at Prudential Center.

Nathan Gerbe scored an empty netter and Derek Ryan scored his first NHL goal for the Hurricanes.

Adam Henrique scored in the first period for the Devils.

Bruins 2, Flames 1

BOSTON -- Cashing in on a late too-many-men-on-the-ice penalty on Calgary, Boston got a power-play goal from Patrice Bergeron to earn the win.
 


The goal was the 24th of the season and the 230th of Bergeron's career, moving him into a tie with Don Marcotte for 10th place on the team's all-time list.

Jakub Nakladal scored his first NHL goal earlier in the period for the Flames and Landon Ferraro also scored for the Bruins, who got 24 saves from Tuukka Rask.

Oilers 2, Sabres 1 (OT)

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Connor McDavid scored 3:48 into overtime to give Edmonton a win over Buffalo.

It was McDavid's second goal of the game. Cam Talbot made 31 saves for the Oilers.

Cal O'Reilly scored for the Sabres and Robin Lehner made 39 saves.

Blues 4, Senators 3 (SO)

OTTAWA -- Patrik Berglund scored in the 11th round of a shootout to give St. Louis a win over Ottawa at Canadian Tire Centre.

Jake Allen made 40 saves for his 20th win of the season, while the Blues were led by Jaden Schwartz's goal and two assists. Dmitrij Jaskin and Vladimir Tarasenko also scored.

Two goals in the final 2:41 of the third period by Jean-Gabriel Pageau completed a dramatic comeback attempt for the Senators, who also got a goal from Ryan Dzingel.

Wild 6, Avalanche 3

SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- Charlie Coyle scored twice in the final period for Minnesota, which trailed early, which also got goals from Nino Niederreiter (2), Jason Pominville and Erik Haula to beat Colorado.

Devan Dubnyk had 30 saves for the Minnesota, which improved to 3-0-1 vs. the Avalanche this season.

Jarome Iginla, Chris Bigras and Cody McLeod scored for the Avalanche.

Panthers 3, Jets 2

WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Reilly Smith fired a pair of goals to pace Florida in a victory over Winnipeg.

Jaromir Jagr also scored for the Panthers. Jagr, 44, is just two points back of legendary forward Gordie Howe (1,850) for third place in all-time NHL scoring. He's closing in on Mark Messier (1,887) but the best of the best, Wayne Gretzky (2,857), is well out of reach.

Dustin Byfuglien and Andrew Copp scored for the Jets.

Predators 5, Stars 3

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Calle Jarnkrok, Shea Weber and Mattias Ekholm scored consecutive goals in the second period, leading Nashville over Dallas.

Craig Smith and James Neal also scored for the surging Predators, who improved to 7-0-3 in their last 10 games.

Antoine Roussel, Jason Spezza and Vernon Fiddler scored for the Stars, who suffered their fourth straight loss.

Islanders 3, Canucks 2

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Thomas Hickey scored the winning at 12:55 of the third period and also had an assist as the New York Islanders defeated Vancouver.

Hickey put the Islanders ahead just 2:03 after Daniel Sedin had tied the game for the Canucks.

Anders Lee and defenseman Travis Hamonic also scored for New York, while Linden Vey, on the power play, also scored for Vancouver.
