[March 09, 2016]  March 8 (The Sports Xchange) - A decision on the status of Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig in a domestic assault investigation is forthcoming, but Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes will not face further discipline until his pending legal matters in Hawaii are settled, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said Tuesday.

"I think the single biggest mistake you can make here is to make a decision quickly and then have additional facts come out afterward and undermine the quality of that decision," Manfred said of the Reyes case.

Ryan Braun will not play in spring training games for at least another week due to back issues but the Milwaukee Brewers expect him to be ready for Opening Day.

Braun, shifting from right field back to left field, is able to do cardio work and some functional exercises.

Clout is coming to Camden Yards in the form of Pedro Alvarez, a longball specialist who signed a one-year deal to serve as designated hitter with the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday.

Alvarez agreed to a one-year, $5.75 million deal with $1.5 million more in incentives.

Houston manager A.J. Hinch received a contract extension during the offseason from team management after the Astros reached the playoffs for the first time in 10 years.

Details of the deal were not revealed by Hinch or the team, but Astros owner Jim Crane and Hinch confirmed the extension that was first reported by the Houston Chronicle.

Aroldis Chapman will make his spring training debut with the New York Yankees on Thursday.

Manager Joe Girardi said Chapman is scheduled to pitch but the rest of his schedule will be determined after that outing.

The Atlanta Braves-Miami Marlins game scheduled for July 3 in Atlanta will be moved to Fort Bragg in North Carolina and played on the military base, Major League Baseball announced.

A 12,500-seat ballpark will be erected there by MLB and the players' association. After the regular-season game, the facility will be converted in a softball field for military and family use.

Miami Marlins right-hander Carter Capps will miss the 2016 season recovering from Tommy John elbow surgery.

Capps missed two months last season and significant time in 2014 with elbow soreness. The Marlins shut him down the first week of spring training to send him to visit Dr. James Andrews.

Boston Red Sox prospect Michael Kopech will be sidelined indefinitely after fracturing his right hand in an "altercation" with a teammate.

General manager Mike Hazen said the right-hander suffered the injury during an incident with his spring training roommate a few days ago. He declined to identify which teammate was involved and also refused to reveal specifics. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
