[March 10, 2016]  March 9 (The Sports Xchange) - Quarterback Brock Osweiler agreed to terms with the Houston Texans on the first day of free agent signings, leaving the defending Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos without a starter.

Osweiler's contract could be worth $72 million over four years, per multiple reports.

The Texans also landed a new running back, Lamar Miller, on a deal worth $26 million over four years.

According to multiple reports, Osweiler could sign the deal Wednesday, only two days after Peyton Manning waved goodbye to the NFL, seemingly clearing the way for Osweiler to take over in Denver.

DeMarco Murray is officially a Tennessee Titan. In the swap between the Philadelphia Eagles and Titans, the teams will also switch spots in the fourth round of the 2016 draft. The Titans absorbed Murray's slightly altered contract, including $12 million guaranteed this season.

Defensive end Olivier Vernon, formerly of the Miami Dolphins, became one of the highest-paid defensive players in the league, agreeing to a five-year, $85 million contract with the New York Giants. About $40 million is fully guaranteed.

The Giants also agreed to deals with nose tackle Damon Harrison and cornerback Janoris Jenkins. Harrison will average $9.25 million per year and receive $24 million guaranteed and $30 million over the first three seasons with the Giants, according to NFL Media.

Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck announced that he will retire following 17 NFL seasons and join his brother Tim as an analyst for ESPN, reportedly replacing Mike Ditka on the set of "Sunday NFL Countdown" and "Monday Night Countdown".

The New York Jets are expected to sign free-agent running back Matt Forte, multiple media outlets reported.

Forte, 30, piled up 898 yards rushing and caught 44 passes for 389 yards in 2015 despite missing three games with a knee injury.

The Falcons also released nose tackle Paul Soliai and agreed to terms with quarterback Matt Schaub.

Safety Rodney McLeod agreed to a five-year, $37 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles also agreed to a contract with backup quarterback Chase Daniel, whose presence could lead to the exit of Mark Sanchez.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to sign free agent tight end Ladarius Green, ESPN.com reported.

The Steelers also agreed to terms with offensive guard Ramon Foster on a new three-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Inside linebacker Danny Trevathan agreed to a deal with the Chicago Bears believed to be worth more than $7 million per year for four years.

The Bears also landed former Arizona Cardinals offensive tackle Bobbie Massie.

The Washington Redskins announced they have re-signed Colt McCoy to be the backup to Kirk Cousins, and according to reports, McCoy agreed to a three-year deal.

Safety George Iloka and the Cincinnati Bengals agreed to terms on a five-year, $30 million contract.

Nose tackle Ian Williams agreed to a five-year contract to remain with the San Francisco 49ers.

Linebacker Rolando McClain re-signed with the Dallas Cowboys, agreeing to a one-year deal. He can earn up to $5 million in 2016.

The Detroit Lions reached agreement with wide receiver Marvin Jones, hoping he can fill a gaping void created with Calvin Johnson's retirement Tuesday.

The Lions also re-signed starting defensive tackle Haloti Ngata to a two-year deal, NFL.com reported.

The Carolina Panthers re-signed defensive end Charles Johnson to a one-year contract.

The Panthers also re-signed fullback Mike Tolbert to a two-year deal worth nearly $2 million per year, according to the Charlotte Observer.

Tight end Antonio Gates agreed to a new two-year, $12 million contract with the San Diego Chargers and will return for his 14th season with the franchise in 2016.

The New Orleans Saints announced they have reached agreement with tight end Coby Fleener on a five-year contract, and NFL.com reports the deal is worth $36 million.

The Indianapolis Colts announced they have released wide receiver Andre Johnson.

Offensive tackle reached Mitchell Schwartz, reached agreement on a five-year deal to play for the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs were fined and must forfeit two draft choices after being informed by the NFL on that they violated the league's anti-tampering policy relating to their contact with prospective unrestricted free agent Jeremy Maclin, then under contract to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Kansas City will forfeit its third-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft and its sixth-round pick in 2017 and was fined $250,000. Head coach Andy Reid was fined $75,000 and general manager John Dorsey was fined $25,000. (Editing by Larry Fine) ))
