Cub Scout Blue and Gold hold annual banquet and crossing over ceremony

[March 14, 2016]   LINCOLN - On Sunday, March 13, 2016, Cub Scout Pack 101 held their annual Blue and Gold Banquet at the Lincoln Park District. At the banquet, the Tiger, Wolf, Bears, and Webelos One Dens all received badges and awards. The Webelos Two Den received special awards and crossed over a bridge to become Boy Scouts.

There were 43 scouts all together. Three Boys Scouts helped with the ceremonies where the cubs moved up. Leaders present included Bret Aukamp, Kristin Green and Leslie Starasta and others.

Members of the Tiger Den, who are in first grade, received various badges such as the Tiger rank, Team Tiger Adventure, Games Tigers Play, Safe and Smart, and Cyberchip. Parents received Mother's Pride neckbands to hold rank pins the Cub Scouts receive.

Members of the Wolf Pack Den, who are in second grade, received various badges such as the Wolf Emblem, Duty to God, Running with the Pack, Wolves on the Path, and Paws on the Path.

Members of the Bears Den, who are in third grade, received various badges such as the Paws for Action Adventure, Bear Claws Adventure, and Super Science Adventure. This group will earn their Bear badges later this spring.


Members of the Webelo One Den, who are in fourth grade, all received their Webelos Rank Emblems.

Members of the Webelos Two Den, who are in fifth grade, received special awards with a few given the Superachievers Award for earning all their badges. This group also earned a Supernova Award. Den co-leader Kristen Green said this award is Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Based. They spent several hours doing research projects and learning about the scientific method to earn this award.

The Webelos Two Den also participated in an Arrow of Light ceremony where they received the Cub Scout's highest award. In that ceremony an archer shoots each of their arrows and their parents present the arrows to them.

The Webelos then removed all Cub Scout symbols and crossed over a bridge in a Bridging Ceremony to become Boy Scouts. As the group walked across the bridge, three Boy Scouts read a list of virtues the newly installed Boy Scouts should live by. The boys received symbols to mark being new Boy Scouts and ended the ceremony by placing their left hands on a flag and reciting the Boy Scout Pledge.

The event marked all the hard work the Cub Scout troops did this year.
