WASHINGTON -- Tom Wilson scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period, Braden Holtby stopped 21 shots, and the Washington Capitals defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1 on Monday, clinching the Presidents' Trophy and home ice throughout the playoffs.

Justin Williams, T.J. Oshie and Nicklas Backstrom also scored for Washington (54-16-5), which equaled the franchise mark for regular-season wins.

Wilson's goal came at 3:46 of the third period after Columbus goalie Sergei Bobrovsky moved to his left to make a save on Mike Richards. Wilson, moving to Bobrovsky's right, corralled the rebound and back-handed the puck into the open net for his seventh goal.

Cam Atkinson scored his 27th goal of the season for Columbus, which lost its third straight.

Flyers 3, Jets 2 (OT)

PHILADELPHIA -- Claude Giroux scored with 13.6 seconds left in overtime as Philadelphia edged Winnipeg.

In transition, Flyers rookie defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere streaked up the right wing and tried to feed Giroux on a two-on-one. The pass was broken up, but Gostisbehere stuck with it and was able to corral the puck before feeding Giroux, who was alone in front.

Mark Streit and Wayne Simmonds scored to give the Flyers a 2-0 lead in the second period, but Mark Scheifele responded in the second and Blake Wheeler tied the game early in the third.

Lightning 3, Maple Leafs 0

TAMPA, Fla. -- Ben Bishop made 34 saves to record his third shutout in six games, and Tampa Bay topped Toronto.

Bishop helped the Lightning kill off seven Maple Leafs power plays after jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the opening period.

Michael Blunden, Ondrej Palat and Victor Hedman scored for Tampa Bay. Steven Stamkos and Erik Condra recorded two assists apiece.

Red Wings 3, Sabres 2

DETROIT -- After building a 3-0 lead, Detroit held on for a win over Buffalo.

Dylan Larkin, Riley Sheahan and Luke Glendening scored for Detroit. Henrik Zetterberg had two assists, and Jimmy Howard made 18 saves.

Zemgus Girgensons and Sam Reinhart scored third-period goals for Buffalo. Chad Johnson made 26 saves.

Avalanche 4, Predators 3

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Jumping out to a 3-0 lead before the first period was 12 minutes old, Colorado kept its slender Western Conference playoff hopes alive by holding off Nashville.

Shawn Matthias scored what turned out to be the winning goal at 12:13 of the third period. It came in very handy when Nashville tallied twice in a 24-second span late in the game.

Colorado goalie Semyon Varlamov picked up his 27th win by stopping 32 shots, including clutch saves on center Mike Ribeiro and right winger James Neal in the final four minutes.

Sharks 5, Kings 2

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Joe Thornton's third-period, power-play goal broke a 2-2 tie and helped lift the Sharks past Los Angeles as San Jose finally clinched a playoff spot Monday night.

The Sharks snapped a three-game losing streak -- all at home -- and qualified for the Stanley Cup playoffs for an 11th time in 12 seasons on their fourth try in a week.

Sharks goalie Martin Jones denied his former teammates by stopping 30 shots. Justin Braun scored twice for San Jose, and Vincent Lecavalier scored both of Los Angeles' goals.

Rookie Anthony Duclair scored a pair of goals for Arizona, which got 16 saves from rookie goalie Louis Domingue.
