NHL roundup: Bruins' slide continues with loss to Devils

 NEWARK, N.J. -- Travis Zajac and Reid Boucher scored power-play goals as the New Jersey Devils damaged the Boston Bruins' playoff hopes with a 2-1 victory at Prudential Center on Tuesday night.

The Bruins have 88 points, one more than the Detroit Red Wings, who also lost Tuesday.

Devils goaltender Keith Kinkaid made 39 saves while Brad Marchand scored the lone goal for the Bruins, who received 13 saves from Tuukka Rask.

Penguins 5, Sabres 4 (SO)

PITTSBURGH -- Kris Letang and Phil Kessel converted Pittsburgh's only two shots of the shootout and it came back from a three-goal deficit in the first period to beat Buffalo.

Tom Kuhnhackl and Nick Bonino scored short-handed 24 seconds apart late in the second period, while Conor Sheary and Ben Lovejoy also scored for the Penguins.

Matt Moulson, Ryan O'Reilly, Jake McCabe and Zach Bogosian scored for the Sabres.

Islanders 2, Hurricanes 1 (SO)

NEW YORK -- Kyle Okposo scored the only goal of the shootout on Tuesday night as New York helped its position in the Eastern Conference playoff race with a come-from-behind win over Carolina at Barclays Center.

Anders Lee scored on a power play with 7:52 left in the third period for the Islanders. Thomas Greiss made 26 saves in regulation and overtime before turning back all three shots he faced in the shootout.

Derek Ryan scored for the Hurricanes, and Cam Ward had 30 saves in regulation and overtime.

Maple Leafs 5, Panthers 2

SUNRISE, Fla. -- Nazem Kadri had a hat trick, including two power-play goals with the man advantage nearly expired, as last-place Toronto surprised Florida at the BB&T Center.

Michael Grabner and a power-play goal in the third period by P.A. Parenteau.

Both of Kadri's power-plays goals were in the second period. The first one, which snapped a 1-1 tie, came with 19 seconds and P.A. Parenteau also scored for the Maple Leafs, who got three assists from Connor Brown.

Jonathan Huberdeau and Greg McKegg scored for the Panthers.

Canadiens 4, Red Wings 3

MONTREAL -- Max Pacioretty's second goal of the night mid-way through the third period lifted Montreal over Detroit at the Bell Centre.

Paul Byron and Sven Andrighetto also scored for the Canadiens.

Gustav Nyquist, Anthony Mantha and Mike Green replied for the Red Wings, who lost for just the second time in regulation this season when leading after two periods.

Wild 4, Blackhawks 1

SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- Minnesota scored twice in the third period and continued its regular-season mastery of Chicago, completing a five-game season sweep of Chicago.

Jared Spurgeon and Erik Haula, Jared Stoll and Nino Niederreiter scored for The Wild, who got 18 saves from goalie Devan Dubnyk to win its season-high sixth consecutive game.

Marian Hossa scored and Scott Darling made 14 saves for the Blackhawks.

Blues 3, Avalanche 1

ST. LOUIS -- Troy Brouwer and Vladimir Tarasenko and David Bakes scored to send St. Louis past Colorado for its fifth consecutive win.

The victory kept the Blues tied with the Dallas Stars for first place in the Central Division and Western Conference while the Avalanche fell five points behind the Minnesota Wild in the race for the second wild card spot in the conference.

Mikhail Grigorenko scored Colorado's lone goal.

Stars 5, Predators 2

DALLAS -- Jamie Benn scored two goals, Alex Goligoski had two assists and Kari Lehtonen stopped 28 of 30 shots as Dallas defeated Nashville at American Airlines Center.

Radek Faksa, Jason Spezza and Patrick Sharp also scored for the Stars.

Pekka Rinne stopped 20 of 23 shots and in a losing effort, and Ryan Ellis and Viktor Arvidsson scored for the Predators.

Sharks 4, Canucks 1

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Logan Couture scored three goals, leading San Jose past Vancouver.

Joe Pavelski had a goal and an assist for the Sharks and Brent Burns had two assists.

Chris Higgins, short-handed, scored for the Canucks, who lost their ninth consecutive game.

Jacob Markstrom stopped 27 shots for the Canucks and James Reimer made 23 saves for the Sharks.
