Springfield Clinic joins Midwest Healthcare Quality Alliance

[March 30, 2016]  SPRINGFIELD – Springfield Clinic, an independent medical group with more than 400 physicians and advanced practitioners in nearly 90 medical specialties, has joined the Midwest Healthcare Quality Alliance (MHQA).

“The purpose of the Midwest Healthcare Quality Alliance is to develop innovative solutions for improving healthcare access, quality, safety and community outcomes across Central Illinois,” said Charles Callahan, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Memorial Health System and executive director of the alliance. “The addition of Springfield Clinic to the alliance will greatly enhance the scope, velocity and impact of our healthcare quality improvement work.”

Springfield Clinic becomes the third partner in the alliance, which was launched in 2014 by Memorial Health System and Southern Illinois University HealthCare.

“Springfield Clinic’s mission is to provide the highest quality health care to the people of central Illinois,” said Dr. J. Michael Zinzilieta, chief medical officer of Springfield Clinic. “We believe our partnership in the alliance will significantly improve health-care outcomes and transform health-care delivery to those we serve.”

Springfield Clinic will also become a client of the Quality Alliance Patient Safety Organization (QAPSO), a federally certified organization focused on improving patient safety through advanced data analysis.

A subsidiary company of the Midwest Healthcare Quality Alliance, QAPSO is currently one of only 81 federally certified PSOs in the United States, and the only one in Illinois outside Chicago.

Other QAPSO clients include Memorial Health System, SIU HealthCare, Blessing Health System in Quincy, Decatur Memorial Hospital, America Ambulance Service and several extended care facilities throughout central Illinois.

The Midwest Healthcare Quality Alliance is headquartered in the Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation at the intersection of Miller and Rutledge streets.
