[March 31, 2016]  On Tuesday, the Lincoln College Men's Volleyball team hosted the North Central College varsity team for their final home match of the season.

The Lynx went out in style with an exciting three-set victory where all three sets were decided by two points.

In set one, Lincoln took advantage of several unforced errors by NCC to jump out to an early 7-3 advantage. The Lynx held the lead much of the rest of the way until a string of aces by a North Central jump server tied the score at 23-23. A service error gave LC the ball back, and freshman outside hitter Kyle Murphy served the next point to give LC a 25-23 set win.

In set two, NCC cut down on their errors considerably and was able to build an early lead, but Lincoln came back to tie the set at 15-15 behind the tough defense of sophomore libero Alec Esparza and strong net play from middle hitters Michael Wesley and Alex Robles. In the set, Esparza chipped in 10 of his team high 23 digs on the night and the two middles combined for six kills and four blocks to help LC take the set in thrilling fashion 32-30.

Set three was just as tight as the first two sets, but unforced errors by NCC behind the service line helped keep Lincoln ahead by one or two points most of the way, North Central made it interesting by fighting off four match point opportunities before eventually falling 26-24.

LC improved their record as a combined team to 4-7 on the season.

LC Coach Mark Tippett: "I am very pleased that our sophomores were able to earn a win in their final home match of the season. Most of them will be moving on to other programs or to continue their studies at other schools, so this was the last time they will get to play together before our home crowd.

"They should be very proud of what they have accomplished as the first class of men's volleyball players at Lincoln College. When I started this program, I had no idea what to expect from the first recruiting class, but these young men came in and established a high level of play and set a fantastic example for the new players we added this year. I am certain they will all go on to do great things in the future."

Lincoln hosted a B team scrimmage with ISU on Wednesday evening then will play two away matches on Saturday at North Central and Trinity Christian College in Chicago.
