[May 04, 2016]    May 3 (The Sports Xchange) - Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper signed a 10-year extension with Under Armour that is likely the wealthiest deal a baseball player has signed with an apparel company.

Under Armour announced the deal Tuesday. How much the deal is worth wasn't revealed.

Injured Boston Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval underwent shoulder surgery.

Sandoval will miss the rest of the 2016 season. The surgery on his left shoulder was performed to repair a torn labrum.

The Baltimore Orioles placed shortstop J.J. Hardy on the 15-day disabled list after he suffered a hairline fracture in his left foot.

It was previously announced that Hardy will be out four to six weeks while the fracture heals. On Tuesday, he was seen in the team's clubhouse wearing a protective boot on the foot.

The Detroit Tigers activated catcher James McCann from the 15-day disabled list.

McCann has been sidelined with an ankle injury. He will be in the starting lineup and batting seventh for Tuesday's game against the Cleveland Indians.

Fears surrounding the Zika virus outbreak in Puerto Rico could force the cancellation of a two-game series scheduled between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Miami Marlins on May 30-31 in San Juan.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently reported a link between a death in Puerto Rico and the virus. The disease is projected to affect 700,000 of the country's 3.5 million people this summer. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
