[May 09, 2016]  MOUNT PULASKI - The 2016 Mount Pulaski High School Prom Grand March was a success under beautiful blue skies Saturday afternoon. With the threat of rain close by, family and friends held their breath as the couples made their way down the steps of the Mount Pulaski Courthouse with Greg Taylor announcing.

Luckily Mother Nature held off for the forty-five simply gorgeous couples who took part in being admired and photographed by the community.

At the end of the Grand March, the 2016 Prom Court was announced with Kamryn Aylesworth being named Prom Queen and William Stewart being named Prom King. Aylesworth is the daughter of Randy and Kelly Aylesworth and Will is the son of John and Diedra Stewart, all of Mount Pulaski. Other members of the Prom Court were Emaleigh Berry, Emily Maus, Jessica Maxheimer, Kurtis Hoock, Sam Koehl and Max Coppinger.

As the crowd of kids departed the town square, all of them going in groups to various eating places like Texas Roadhouse and Osaka, the Grand March coordinators let out a sigh of relief, thanks to the weather.

The couples had plenty of time to eat as the Prom did not start until 8:00 p.m.

The dancing and desserts took place at the Midnight Masquerade themed prom at the American Legion Home in Mount Pulaski, with Nick Davis spinning tunes.

Doorman for the Prom was freshman, Ian Schneider. Two freshmen cake girls were Lilly Fuhrer and Madison Thomas.

The couples danced until 11:00 p.m. and then had the chance to go home to change clothes before the Post-prom started at 11:30 p.m. at Mount Pulaski High School.

Once again this year’s post-prom was put on by a team of volunteer parents and grandparents. The hugely successful event featured nearly 100 students in attendance.

According to one of the organizers, Jeanie Beccue, post-prom featured three inflatables this year: a joust arena, a wrecking ball arena, and giant hungry, hungry hippo. There was also a giant twister board and the crowd-favorite, hypnotist.

Beccue also said the students were “loaded up with pizza, sub sandwiches, buffalo wings, nachos, fresh fruit, brownie sundaes, and a coffee bar.”

In addition, many prizes are donated by individuals and local businesses. According to Beccue, “Prizes ranged from about a $20 value up all the way to smart televisions and a dorm refrigerator. Everyone got at least one prize and a few got two prizes. We had almost 100 kids come and only a few left before the end.” Beccue noted that in the past kids might have ended up with two or even three prizes because so many had left early, but not this year. Almost everyone stayed until 5:00 a.m. “Which was awesome!” said Beccue.

And about that rain that had been in the forecast the previous day, it never started until the kids left the school early Sunday morning. Thanks to Mother Nature for making a beautiful weekend for the 2016 MPHS Prom and for a beautiful Mother’s Day.
