[May 12, 2016]  (Reuters) - A domestic dispute in Birmingham, Alabama has ended with a woman shot dead, a 12-year old girl suffering life-threatening injuries and three other children wounded but in a stable condition, local media reported on Thursday.

Violence broke out late on Wednesday when the woman's boyfriend, the suspected shooter, was apparently blocked from entering her house, news website AL.com reported.

The children aged 5, 8, 11 and 12 had wounds to their hands, hips, chests and thighs and were taken to a local hospital, the site reported.

"He wanted to come in the house. Apparently they refused to let him in and for some reason I guess, he began to start shooting inside the residence," Birmingham police spokesman Sean Edwards told the website.

Edwards was not immediately available for comment.
