Lincoln Heat 10U tops Deer Creek-Mackinaw in back-and-forth affair, 5-3

[May 12, 2016]  The Lincoln Heat 10U once again took the field Tuesday night, this time, at the friendly confines of the Lincoln Rec Center. The Heat took on Deer Creek-Mackinaw and came from behind to win 5-3.

Ryan O’Donoghue started on the mound for Lincoln and went three innings, striking out five, allowing three hits and only walking two batters. Trey Schilling came in for relief and pitched three innings, striking out seven, allowing only one hit and no walks to get his second win of the season. Wyatt Mammen closed out the last inning striking out two and only allowing one hit to get the save.

At the plate, the Lincoln Heat 10U was led by lead-off hitter Luke Jones, going two-for-three, with two singles and speeding his way around the bases to score two runs to help the Heat secure two runs in the fourth and fifth innings to come from behind and take home the win. Also at the plate, Colbie Glenn, Wyatt Mammen, and Schilling each got a base hit for Lincoln.

The Lincoln Heat 10U now has a few days off to get rest and prepare for their first tournament of the season this weekend, The Bloomington Renegades Classic in Bloomington Il. Many of the best travel clubs in the state play in this prestigious tournament. “I’m excited about this weekend,” said head coach Tony Schilling. “This will be a true test of how we will compete against some of the best 10U travel teams in the state. I know the team is excited, and the kids are ready for the challenge.”

The Lincoln Heat 10U is scheduled to play Friday night at 7:15 p.m. and Saturday at 1:15 p.m. in Bloomington-Normal. Bracket-play will be played on Sunday, based on the results from the two first games.
