Atlanta community to host day of remembrance on Memorial Day

[May 16, 2016]   LINCOLN - Memorial Day will be observed in Atlanta on Monday, May 30th as the community pauses to remember and reflect upon the service and sacrifices made by veterans.

The day will begin with the Atlanta United Methodist Church Menís Breakfast at the Atlanta firehouse from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.

The Atlanta Boy Scouts will hold a cake auction at the firehouse beginning at 8 a.m.

The Veteranís Memorial Ceremony and Atlanta Band Concert will begin at 10 a.m. on the lawn of the Atlanta Public Library.

At 11:00 a.m. the Flying Feet Cloggers from Audraís Dance Studio in Lincoln will perform.

All children are invited to take a fire truck ride to the Atlanta Cemetery to honor veterans by placing flags on their graves. The fire trucks will depart from the Atlanta Public Library at 11:45 a.m.

From 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. the VFW Auxiliary #1756 will serve lunch at the firehouse. Lunch will also be served by Mr. Rob Polen, featuring items from the Atlanta Locker.

In the case of inclement weather, all activities will be held inside the Atlanta Firehouse, except the childrenís trip to the Atlanta Cemetery, which will be canceled.

Everyone is invited and encouraged to come and help the community honor veterans.
