[May 17, 2016]  LINCOLN - Donald Vinson, 79, of Lincoln passed away at 3:15 p.m. May 15, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.

Visitation: 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln

Service: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 19, at Lincoln Christian Church

Obituary

Donald Vinson, 79, of Lincoln passed away at 3:15 p.m. May 15, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.

Don was born April 6, 1937 in Lincoln, the son of Roy and Aileen McLerran Vinson. He married Georgia Brown November 24, 1961 in Lincoln. She survives in Lincoln.

Also surviving Don are his children: Vance Vinson, Brooke (Rachel) Vinson, Joel (DeAnn )
Vinson; one sister: Jackie (Paul) Campbell, and grandchildren: Graham, Gage, Drake, and Josh. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Don graduated from Lincoln Community High School in 1955, he played on the LCHS tennis team. He also played on the tennis teams for Lincoln College and Southern Illinois University. He also enjoyed playing softball and golf. He was an active member in Lincoln Christian Church. He was one of the original members of the Railer Booster Club. He served on the Civil Service Commission and he loved to volunteer at the Lincoln College and the Lincoln Heritage Museum at Lincoln College. He also served as an alderman on the city council.

Services for Don will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Lincoln Christian Church with Jack Getchel officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln. Burial will follow the service on Thursday at New Union Cemetery. Memorials may be given in Don’s name to Lincoln Christian Church or the Lincoln Heritage Museum.
