[May 19, 2016]  Three pitchers for the Lincoln Heat 10U combined for eleven strikeouts, on eight hits and only giving up three earned runs in the victory at the Lincoln Rec Center Tuesday night.

Ryan O’Donoghue started on the mound for the Heat, striking out three and not allowing a walk during his three innings of pitching. Darren Stevens relieved O’Donoghue in the fourth inning, striking out two.

But it was the season debut on the mound for Colbie Glenn that excited the team and fans. In Glenn’s first trip to the mound, Colbie struck out six batters and collected his first save of the season.

“How exciting was that?” said head coach Tony Schilling. “We knew Colbie could pitch. I was able to watch him a few times last year at the 9U level. We wanted to find the right time and situation to give him the confidence to pitch well, and he did.”

Schilling reports that being able to add Colbie Glenn to the rotation is huge, especially as the Heat 10U will be playing in three more tournaments this season. “When you can walk into a tournament and not be concerned of “over-throwing” any pitchers, and know that you have a bullpen of six or seven pitchers that can be there for you, that’s huge.”

It was not just the pitching from O’Donoghue and Glenn that won the game; it was their hitting that secured the win for the Heat. Both O’Donoghue and Glenn, along with Brenden Wurth, powered two hits apiece. Glenn and Camden Nelson belted their second double of the season in the game. Michael Lucas, Griffen Shaw, Trey Schilling, Luke Jones and Jarrett Evers each got a hit to give Lincoln twelve hits for the game.

The Lincoln Heat 10U is back home Thursday night at the Rec to take on the Morton Potters. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
