Last week was National Nursing
Home Week. To commemorate the event, staff and residents at St.
Clara's Nursing Home in Lincoln held special events daily that
focused on their primary theme of "It's a small world with a big
heart."
The week kicked off with a food drive at the Manor with the
collection of items donated being sent to the Logan County Food
Pantry.
On Monday the local talent of Eleanor Gunderman and Jon Langebahm
sang their hearts out for the residents, and also the group enjoyed
a special visit from the very well known comedian "Carol Channing."
Tuesday, the Heartland Mini Hoofs tugged at the hearts of everyone
for over an hour as the tiny horses came inside and visited with
residents in the activity room. The gentle creatures enjoy being
loved and touched, and residents delighted in the opportunity to
give them that sought after attention.
In the afternoon on Tuesday, the Geezers, a well-aged band
consisting of members from North Pekin, Chillicothe, Bloomington,
and Springfield put some swing in the afternoon with some good old
rock-n-roll music.
On Wednesday, St. John's United Church of Christ visited the Manor,
playing Bingo with residents and passing out heart shaped cookies
for everyone to enjoy.
Thursday it was St. Clara's staffer Terry Baker who offered up some
delightful entertainment in the form of a wonderful magic show.
On Friday, the week came to an end with residents enjoying Big Heart
Bingo. There were special prizes given out and special Bingo
necklaces.
It was a great week at the Manor and a chance for the staff to show
their love to the residents by means above and beyond their daily
care. "Our residents are always our main focus, and we hope they
know how very special each one of them is to the staff at St.
Clara's Manor," said Activity Director Rebecca Johnson.
