Christmas on Vinegar Hill quickly approaching
Annual shopping event to be held Saturday November 19th

[November 11, 2016]   MOUNT PULASKI – The 28th annual Christmas on Vinegar Hill will be held Saturday November 19th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will include shopping opportunities in various locations including private homes, schools, churches, and businesses in Mount Pulaski and the surrounding area. Shoppers can expect to find crafts, antiques, baked goods, and much more, along with the marvelous offerings of the quaint downtown shops in Mount Pulaski.

Green wooden Christmas trees with numbers and letters will mark the shopping sites. Maps will be available at all the shopping locations as well as at the Mount Pulaski Courthouse. More than 125 crafters and antique collectors/dealers have already enrolled for participation in this year’s event.

Guests in town can also expect a wide variety of foods to be offered at breakfast and lunch time. There will be food sales at several locations that include home-made products, and area restaurants will be ready to serve as well.

The Mount Pulaski Courthouse where Abraham Lincoln argued cases when he rode the old 8th Judicial Circuit will be open throughout the day. Visitors are invited to stop by and soak in some of Logan County’s richest history and also enjoy the Lincoln period Christmas decorations throughout the building.

Christmas on Vinegar Hill takes its name from a colorful period in Mount Pulaski history. Prior to the repeal of the 18th amendment ending prohibition, in 1933, Mount Pulaski stayed “wet” longer than the surrounding communities. Since Mount Pulaski had 13 prosperous saloons and a few bootleggers, the railroads brought many customers into town from all directions. Upon nearing the town, the train conductor would call out “Vinegar Hill – next stop.” Travelers would come into the town with their empty flasks and leave with full ones, thus the name Vinegar Hill.
