Canadian rookie Mackenzie Hughes rolled in a 15-foot par putt from off the green Monday morning to win the RSM Classic in a playoff for his first PGA Tour victory.

Camilo Villegas, Henrik Norlander and Blayne Barber all missed their own par putts in frigid conditions on the Seaside Course at Sea Island Resort in St. Simons Island, Ga.

The playoff resumed at 8 a.m. Monday morning with the third hole of sudden death at the par-3 17th after play was suspended due to darkness Sunday evening. Billy Horschel also was in the playoff after 72 holes but was eliminated on the first playoff hole in the first five-man playoff on the PGA Tour since the 2015 Puerto Rico Open.

All four players who returned to resume the playoff missed the green. Hughes slammed his fist in celebration after making his putt, knowing it at least kept him in the playoff, before watching the others all miss par putts from 10 feet or closer.

"I made the putt of my life right there," Hughes said."As each guy went down, it was that much more real.

"If I didn't make, I thought I was probably out. Before I hit it, the thought was, 'Just make them think about it.' Put this putt in first, and if you can be the first guy in, put the pressure back on them. And that's what happened."

Hughes' first career PGA Tour victory came in his ninth start two days before his 26th birthday. Hughes, who led outright each of the first three rounds, posted a 1-under 69 in the final round Sunday to get to 17-under 265 and join a playoff.

The RSM Classic is the final official PGA Tour event of 2016. Hughes earned $1.08 million and a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour. He becomes the first player from Canada to win on the Tour since Nick Taylor at the 2014 Sanderson Farms Championship.
