[October 03, 2016]  On Friday, the Lincoln College Women's Volleyball team lost another heart-breaker in five sets to the visiting Illinois Central Cougars.

ICC came into the match ranked #9 in the most recent NJCAA DII National poll. Lincoln was not intimidated at all as they took the first two sets of the match by scores of 25-23 and 25-18.

In set three, ICC regrouped and was able to hold off Lincoln 25-23 to extend the match.

LC continued to play right with the Cougars in set four and even held a late 18-15 advantage, but some aggressive serving by ICC and several unforced errors rattled the Lady Lynx, and they let the lead slip away. ICC would eventually take the set 25-21.

In set 5, Lincoln took the early advantage and went up 8-5, but a five-point run by ICC changed the momentum for good. The Cougars would not give up the lead again as they went on to win the deciding set 15-12. The loss drops Lincoln to 11-7 on the season.

Lincoln will play another home match this Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. against Lindenwood-Belleville.

The teams will wear pink in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and all proceeds from the match will be donated to cancer research.

LC Coach Mark Tippett: "Tonight, we showed that we are capable of not just playing with a top ten caliber opponent, but of defeating them. We were able to run our offense and battled hard on defense all night. What caught up to us was our tendency to commit too many unforced errors such as net violations or ball handling errors. These mistakes stopped our momentum too often in the later stages of the match and allowed ICC to get back in it. It's definitely a frustrating way to lose, but the bright side is that we go forward knowing that we have the talent to compete with the top teams in nation. Taking two five set losses in one week is not exactly fun, but I believe we will grow from our experiences this week and be a stronger team for it in the long run."
