[October 04, 2016]  LINCOLN - Alvida Jane Petro, 70, passed away at 9:28 a.m. on Saturday October 1, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center of Springfield.

Visitation:   10:00 a.m. Friday October 7, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lincoln

Memorial Mass:   11:00 a.m. Friday October 7, 2016 at the church

Obituary

Alvida Jane Petro, 70, passed away at 9:28 a.m. on Saturday October 1, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center of Springfield.

Alvida was born on March 27, 1946 in Lincoln; daughter of George Jr. and Darlene Perce Petro.

Alvida is survived by her mother Darlene Gleason; her siblings: George (Gail) Petro of Lincoln, Dennis (Nitsi) Gleason of Lincoln, Thomas (Roxy) Gleason of Lincoln, Terry Petro Cooley of Lincoln, and Regina (Ronnie) Gleason Peters of Springfield; many nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and stepfather: Patrick Gleason.

She loved every one of her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children; she had so much love for her family. Alvida went by Vee, Bee and her family may have called her Sarge a time or two. She retired from the State of Illinois Board of Education in 2004, after 39 years of service.

A memorial mass for Alvida will be 11:00 a.m. Friday October 7, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lincoln, with Rev. Jeffrey Laible officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.

Memorials may be made in Alvida’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Services are entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
