[October 13, 2016]    Oct 12 (The Sports Xchange) - Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby practiced Wednesday, two days after being diagnosed with a concussion, but will miss Thursday night's season opener.

 

Coach Mike Sullivan confirmed Crosby would not play against the Washington Capitals at PPG Paints Arena when the Penguins raise their Stanley Cup banner.

Buffalo Sabres center Jack Eichel suffered an injury to his ankle during practice Wednesday and needed help getting off the ice.

Coach Dan Bylsma told reporters that Eichel was being examined by the team's medical staff and did not know the extent of the injury.

The Boston Bruins will be without forward Patrice Bergeron and defensemen Adam McQuaid and Kevan Miller for Thursday night's season opener.

General manager Don Sweeney announced Wednesday the three veterans will not travel to Columbus for the Bruins' game against the Blue Jackets.

Bergeron sustained a lower-body injury and McQuaid an upper-body injury. Miller underwent surgery to repair a fracture in his left hand on Tuesday. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
