[October 14, 2016]   LINCOLN - The Logan County Genealogical & Historical Society will hold its November meeting on Monday, November 17 at the Center at 114 N Chicago St at 6:30 p.m. The speaker this month will be Mrs. Dianne Ruff.

She will be speaking on the art of Wheat Weaving. It is an ancient art that dates back many centuries . It was begun to celebrate the harvest, especially a good harvest.

Dianne dates her interest in the craft to the time she attended the National Association of Wheat Weaving convention with her mother, Berniece Naffziger. She states that she has attended every convention since. She obviously caught the bug.

Conventions are held all over the country. She has been to Mexico and England for classes. She has also designed and taught many projects. She teaches at conventions and speaks at local shows and meetings. She loves to share her talent with others. We are grateful that she has consented to share with us.

There are small and large elaborate projects to this art, including plaiting, tied work, spun straw threads, and weaving. When asked where she gets her supplies? Her reply: There are vendors who supply straw. Also, there may be a friendly farmer in your area who plants wheat or oats and would be willing to let you gather from his field. Gleaning is also an ancient practice.

We look forward to her presentation. As always, the public is invited and encouraged to attend.
