[October 18, 2016]    The Hartsburg-Emden volleyball team did not disappoint the hometown crowd Monday night. According to Coach Jennifer Hayes, the Stags defeated Jacksonville Routt Catholic in a grueling three game Senior Night match.

The Stags dropped set one, 25-14, but bounced back to win set two 25-21. Set three was every bit as intense as one would expect from Hayes’ squad, with the Stags coming out on top in a nail-biter 27-25.

“We came out a little tight in game one in front of the home crowd, pushing too hard causing unforced errors,” said Hayes. "Once we settled down it was a great match to watch.

Seniors Maddie Shawgo and Ashley Zinser stepped up for their last home game as Stags,” she said excitedly.

Adding to the excitement was the coach’s daughter, according to mom, "Anna Hayes contributed a career high 28 kills to help secure the victory,” she added again, very excited.

Coach Hayes has undoubtedly coached a ton of magnificent volleyball players throughout her stellar career, but seeing her daughter so successful as a sophomore has to be among her highlights, both personally and professionally. Anna Hayes is certainly going to be fun to watch around the area in the future.

Congratulations to seniors Maddie and Ashley and best of luck to you in the future!
