[October 21, 2016]  LINCOLN - On Tuesday, October 18, 2016, the Logan County Board began their board meeting by recognizing the Lincoln Community High School ladies golf team and conference champion Izzy Stiefvater for their great season.

Members of the girls golf team are Izzy Stiefvater, Ali Wilson, Smruti Patel, Lauren Canady and Victoria Triplett, and Sana Wahab. Amy Fink coaches the team.

Board member Scott Schaffenacker made a motion for a resolution recognizing the team. The resolution said that "high school athletics promotes the healthy lifestyle camaraderie, and school spirit" and "golf is a lifetime sport equally pursued and mastered by boys and girls."

The resolution also said "our area high school programs have produced a number of accomplished players and teams" and "the Lincoln Community High School girls' golf team enjoyed an outstanding 2016 golf season nearly winning the conference championship."

The resolution recognized team member Izzy Stiefvater for "the rare feat of winning the individual conference title."

The resolution said "it has been many years since an area player has won conference and did so against a very strong field" and "a victory of this magnitude cannot occur without many months of hard work and training by all the players working together as a unit."

The resolution said "the high level of individual success was made possible by excellent coaching, competitive and encouraging teammates, supportive families, and a high school administration committed to extracurricular participation at all levels."

Golf coach Amy Fink said, "golf is not an easy sport to just pick up." She said all the girls "worked really hard and the hard work shows." Fink said she is "really proud of all of them" and hopes to get more girls who want to play golf.

Stiefvater said, "It took me ten years to be where I am today and I am still not where I want to be, but if you keep working hard, you're going to get really far."

The board congratulated the team for their great season.
